Not to mention, their little scheme to make Aiden an American citizen is illegal. No one should have to marry someone who’s been a complete asshole to them just because it means that your student loans will get paid off. The only realistic thing this book highlights well is that student loans and the cost of going to college in the US is completely ridiculous compared to other counties. But the real kicker to get her to agree with this scheme of his is that he’ll pay off all her student loans and buy her a house.
He’s never shown her the respect and appreciation she deserves and then he only apologizes when she lays it all out on the table. So, his solution is for Vanessa to marry him. His real predicament comes to light – he wants to stay living in the US instead of going back to Canada because he’ll no longer be on his work visa if he isn’t playing for his team (the Three Hundreds). Even after Vanessa constantly tells him she doesn’t want to go back as his assistant, he doesn’t change his tone or tries to understand why she doesn’t want to. But like Vanessa, I kept on.Īiden just comes across and rude and entitled. Only for Aiden to be at a loss after all those years of taking her for granted, and asks for Vanessa to come back to him.Īnd this is where I should have walked away from the story.
Eventually, enough is enough and she quits. She knows how to get the job done and bends over backwards for pretty much anything Aiden asks for. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen but it felt like nothing ever did, and there wasn’t even sports to make it interesting. But t here was very little football and I was very disappointed. It felt unnecessarily long for a contemporary romance and if there was more, well, actual focus on the sports aspect of this sports romance, I would have been more forgiving. I absolutely love slow burns, so I thought I was going to love this one, but strangely enough, I just didn’t? The thing about slow burn romances is that I have to actively root for the couple and that wasn’t the case here for me. I’m definitely the odd one out on this book.
